WE WILL BUILD THE VELKÉ MEZIŘÍČÍ BYPASS

 

On 13 May 2026, construction of the south-eastern bypass of Velké Meziříčí was officially launched.

 

The new bypass, approximately 2.4 kilometres long, will run outside the built-up area. It will connect road II/602 on the Jihlava – Brno route towards Velká Bíteš, and road II/360 towards Třebíč.

 

The most important structure will be a bridge over the Oslava River, approximately 230 metres long. Nearly one kilometre of existing connecting roads will also be reconstructed. The project also includes two additional bridges serving as crossings over field and utility roads, regulation of the Františovský stream — which will be routed under the bypass through a culvert — and the rerouting of water mains, sewage and high-voltage lines. The bypass route will partly run through a cutting and partly on an embankment. In the Karlov district, the new bypass will connect to an existing roundabout, which also serves as a link to the D1 motorway junction. The new road is designed to be 9.5 metres wide, with an additional turning lane in the direction of Třebíč.

 

This is another in a series of construction projects being prepared by the Vysočina Region along the route for transporting components for the construction of new units at the Dukovany nuclear power plant.

 

The bypass is expected to significantly relieve Velké Meziříčí of the traffic complications that regularly occur during incidents on the D1 motorway, when the route through the town serves as a diversion.
